ANGELICA—a pairing of two one-act operas—Suor Angelica by Giacomo Puccini and the new work Pietá by Jake Landau and Andrea DelGuidice—is set in the romantic worlds of Venice and Ireland of yesteryear. Angelica explore themes of devoted motherhood and twisted family ties, tangled by the grandest of operatic themes…love, incest, madness, imprisonment and death. The ravishing score of Puccini’s opera is complemented by the soaring original music of Jake Landau, one of the most promising musical theater composers on the scene today. The two one-act operas are directed and “conceived as one” by DelGuidice. The cast features tenor David Smolokoff, sopranos Claire Leyden and Jordan Bowman and mezzo-soprano Devony Smith. The operas will be accompanied by a live orchestra conducted by Jason Tramm.
