The Spongebob Musical is being presented ON STAGE as a part of the Axelrod Performing Arts Academy’s 12 week fall session, from September 7 through December 13, culminating with a two-weekend production of The Spongebob Musical, directed by Abby C. Smith with musical direction by Jason Cohen and choreography by a team of Broadway specialists in jazz, tap, hip hop and musical theater.

Under the direction of Gabriel Chajnik, APAA is a pre-professional program that seeks dedicated, talented theater and dance students who want to pursue a future in the performing arts. While our students LOVE every minute of studying and rehearsing, this is not a recreational theater program. APAA's educational philosophy combines both process and performance. Students train with outstanding professionals and then apply what they have learned on the stage in a full-scale production.

Enrolled students will study with the professional staff at APAA alongside special guest instructors from the Broadway cast of The Spongebob Musical (and other shows!)

PRINCIPALS

SpongeBob SquarePants (Range: C3-B4) The hero of our story. He loves his community more than anything in the world and he will do anything for them. SpongeBob is sincere, positive, sometimes a bit naïve but always determined to spread joy wherever he goes. He has more strength than he realizes.

Patrick Star (Range: Bb2-Bb4) SpongeBob’s BFF, Patrick is always up for SpongeBob’s adventures but struggles to find the confidence to strike out on his own. He can be gullible, but he’s strong and loyal.

Sandy Cheeks (Range: A3-E5) Smart, quick-witted, energetic and fierce. Sandy is a scientist who has a passion for karate and knows her worth. Her confidence and brains are the key to saving Bikini Bottom.

Squidward Q. Tentacles (Range: A2-F#4) Squidward is always having a bad day, especially when SpongeBob’s around. His secret ambition is to become a concert clarinetist, and he dreams of being in the spotlight and making his Mama proud. Tap skills needed.

Eugene Krabs (Range: B2-Bb4) Mr. Krabs’ priorities, in order, are: Money, keeping the Secret Formula safe, Money, his daughter Pearl, and Money. He sees Bikini Bottom’s peril as an opportunity to make (you guessed it) more MONEY!

Sheldon J. Plankton (Range: B2-G#4) Power hungry and always scheming. Plankton has a size complex because he’s about one inch tall. Rap skills necessary.

FEATURED ROLES

Patchy the Pirate (Range: D3-F4 (F5 falsetto) The biggest SpongeBob fan in the world.

Pearl Krabs (Range:Bb3-F#5) Mr. Krabs’ teenage daughter who is obsessed with the Electric Skates. Amazing pop belt.

The Electric Skates, three rock stars who are gracing Bikini Bottom with their presence.

The Mayor of Bikini Bottom (Range: F#4-B5) Doesn’t know what she’s doing, but if you ask her, she’s got everything under control.

Larry the Lobster, a body-building crustacean

Mrs. Puff, SpongeBob’s driving teacher

Old Man Jenkins, the town curmudgeon

Gary the Snail, SpongeBob’s pet
