Audition for Axelrod Contemporary Ballet Theater's
THE POLAR EXPRESS!
Now casting student roles for The Polar Express, directed by Gabriel Chajnik! Join us for our audition workshops on August 17th, 30th and September 10th at Bell Works for the opportunity to perform alongside professional dancers. Please fill out the audition form below and bring your resume/headshot.
This Dance-Theatre style show is a first-class, family-friendly, dance and music production that If cast, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside great professional dancers and a superb creative team. Audition workshops will be held at our studio at Bell Works in Holmdel, NJ. Performances will be December 1-10 at the Axelrod PAC in Deal.
No audition fee required. Please wear leotard, tights, ballet shoes and jazz shoes.
ABOUT POLAR EXPRESS
On Christmas Eve, a young boy embarks on a magical adventure to the North Pole on the Polar Express. Through dazzling dance scenes and heartwarming holiday songs he learns about friendship, bravery, and the spirit of Christmas. With hot chocolate in hand, and snowy landscapes whizzing past the windows, he embarks on a fantastical journey to the North Pole meeting incredible characters that will make you dance in your seat.

Ages 7-11 3-4 PM a warm-up class + choreography from the show.
-Ages 12+ plus leads call back 4:30-6:30 PM ballet class + choreography from the show.

September 10
Ages 7-11 10-11 AM a warm-up class + choreography from the show.

Participation Requirements:
We are excited that you/your child would like to participate in this year’s production of the “Polar Express.” Please make sure that you’re available for all the dates listed below.
All dancers MUST be enrolled in at least one APAA weekly class and be available for the following :
-Weekly rehearsals, for ages 7-11
September 24 -Nov. 18.

13+ Sundays 9-10 class Polar Express -10:15-1PM

6-8 Sundays 1PM-2:30PM

9-12 Sundays 2:30 -4:30PM
-Weekly rehearsals, for ages 12+
Sundays 9am-1pm starting September 23 -Nov. 18.
No rehearsal November 23-26.
Digital submissions will be considered as well if unable to attend the live auditions. We urge all talent to attend the live auditions if possible. If not, please submit: Resume, head and body shots (must be recent and reflect your current look),

* Absence from regular rehearsals is allowed for illness/emergency, call or text Olivia Miranda, 609 315 6491. If absence is preplanned, then notify APAA via email apaa@axelrodartscenter.org in advance of the date of absence, dancer’s name and reason for absence. Note that a student missing 50 percent of rehearsals will be dismissed from the production.
Dancers are expected to arrive 15 minutes early for every rehearsal to dress and warm up. Wear a ballet class uniform with hair up and back from face.
$300 Fee to participate in the production will help cover rehearsal time, teaching staff, choreographers, costume rental/purchase.
-All dancers MUST be enrolled in at least one APAA weekly class, students 12+ can choose the
Sunday Ballet class as their Polar Express class.

Casting, 2 dancers/actors
“Hero Boy”
Boy Child Dancer/Actor/Singer
Must be at least 10 years old, under 5 feet, and be able to convincingly play an age 8-11 boy. Looking for a strong dancer/singer who can act, tap is a plus.
Scenes include interactions with adult dancers and other children, and the role includes singing, dancing, and acting. All family-friendly; a great annual family holiday show at our performing arts center.
Casting 2 dancer/actors
“Hero Girl” ( Hero boy's best friend)
Girl Child Dancer/Actor/Singer
Must be at least 9 years old, under 5 feet, and be able to convincingly play an age 8-11 girl . Looking for a strong dancer/singer who can act, tap is a plus.
Scenes include interactions with adult dancers and other children, and the role includes singing, dancing, and acting. Family-friendly; a great annual family holiday show at our performing arts center.

10 AM Ballet Class, followed by learning choreography from the show. Singing/Tap audition will be at 11:30 AM.
WHAT TO PREPARE
Females: Bring a short Tap solo no longer than 1.5 min. Bring tap shoes as well as flat ballet shoes or jazz sneakers. Bring a 16-32 bar cut of an up-tempo and a Ballad Christmas song clearly marked that best shows off your personality, confidence, and vocal strengths; and bring your own book.
Males: Bring a short Tap solo no longer than 1.5 min. Bring tap shoes and ballet/jazz shoes.
Prepare 2 full songs, a holiday ballad and an up-tempo Christmas song. Bring your book in case you’re asked to sing more. An accompanist will be provided, but if you desire, you can also sing with a recorded track.
All auditioners should look their very best. Performers should have their hair pulled back out of their face, wear proper dance attire, and wear dance shoes. Bring tap shoes as well as flat dance shoes or jazz sneakers.

Please prepare a contemporary musical theater-style piece (32 bars).
Be sure to bring your sheet music printed in the correct key.
Be prepared for a short dance call after vocal auditions.
